Flames Finish Final Day At NCAA East Regional In 22nd Place

The Flames finished their second-ever appearance at the NCAA East Regional in 22nd place out of 27 teams as the three-day event concluded today at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.

Liberty finished the final day with a 16-over par 304, giving the Flames a three-day total of 53-over par 917 (310-303-304) on the par-72, 7,179 yard course.

This marked Liberty second appearance at the NCAA Regional Championship as the Flames earned their first-ever ticket to the event with an at-large bid in 2003.

Wake Forest carded a tournament best five-under par 283 on the final day to climb over several teams to claim the team title at the championship as the Demon Deacons carded a three-day even par 864 (285-296-283), while No. 1 seed Georgia finished just one stroke behind with a one-over par 865 (284-294-287).

Fellow Big South Conference member Coastal Carolina (301-288-288) carded an even par 288 on the final day of competition to finish the three-day event in a tie for fifth place along with Charlotte (299-290-288) as both programs finished the tournament with a 13-over par 877.

UCLA's Kevin Chappell fired a four-under par 68 total to jump from eighth to individual medalist honors on the final day as he finished atop the leaderboard with a five-under par 211 (70-73-68), while Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson (71-72-69) and UNLV's Jarred Texter (70-70-72) finished in a tie for second with a four-under par 212.

Peter Horstman (76-77-76) and Albie Powers (78-74-77) led the way for the Flames as both golfers finished tied for 82nd place with a 13-over par 229, while Andrew Turner finished tied for 90th with a 14-over par 230 (75-81-74). Parker McKoy finished 115th with a 18-over par 234 (81-76-77), while Jay Calvo rounded out Liberty's golfers with a 22-over par 238 (81-76-81) in a tie for 124th place.
