Coming off its most successful fall season in program history, Liberty's men's golf team is set to return to tournament action on Monday and Tuesday, as they participate in the 2010 JU Invitational at the PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

The second annual event will be contested this year at the one of the more famous United States golf courses. The PLAYERS Stadium Course, site of the annual THE PLAYERS Championship on the PGA Tour, is most well known for the par-3 No. 17 island green.

Event host Jacksonville will be providing live hole-by-hold stats, through the Golfstat online tournament site (to access the live scoring, click link above) and live video coverage of play during both day's action at the No. 17 hole (to access the live video, click link above).

The 15-team tournament field at the 2010 JU Invitational is spotlighted by No. 23 Clemson and includes a pair of Big South programs in Charleston Southern and Winthrop.

As previously mentioned, the Flames are coming off their strongest fall season in program history, one that helped their team Golfstat ranking climb as high as No. 85. Liberty had three top four finishes during the fall, helping the Flames complete their early season schedule with a team average of three-over-par 291.

Liberty opened the 2009-10 season with a third-place finish at its own Frank Landrey Invitational, before capturing the team title at the Davidson College Invitational.

The Flames put together their second-best 54-hole total in program history at Xavier's Renaissance Invitational, when Liberty carded a 15-under-par 849, helping the squad secure a fourth-place finish in the event.

Individually, the Flames are being paced during the 2009-10 season by sophomore Robert Karlsson. The Kalmar, Sweden native finished the fall with a 73.00 stroke average, posting three top five showings in four events.

Following just behind Karlsson is Max McKay. The rookie posted a 74.17 stroke average during his freshman fall season. McKay, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., is coming off one of the best showings in program history, as he finished second at the Renaissance with a 14-under-par. His 54-hole 202 total was tied for the best three-round total in program history.

Jordan Frye finished next on the Flames stroke average list, posting a 75.44 average during the fall. Following behind Frye were juniors Stephen Dooley (75.50) and Preston Dembowiak (75.67).

Serving as the tournament host is Jacksonville-native, 10-time PGA Tour winner and 1988 THE PLAYERS champion Mark McCumber. McCumber won the 1988 PLAYERS by four shots over Mike Reid, posting a final score of 13-under par for the week.

The 15-team event begins on Monday morning with two rounds scheduled to begin via a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes, starting with tee times at 8 a.m.
