During today's "2009 in Review" segment, LibertyFlames.com takes a look at the Flames run at the record books this past year.
As LibertyFlames.com continues its "2009 in Review" segments, today, the site is going to take a look at the team and individual numbers from the 2009 campaign and see how they stack up against the program's record book. The most notable numbers came in terms of the team's wins, as Liberty finished the year with an 8-3 record. Over the last three years, Liberty has finished the season with eight or more victories, marking the first-such stretch in program history. Additionally, the 20-plus seniors who donned Liberty uniforms for the last time in 2009 left a lofty number following their final season of competition. This year's senior class, the first recruiting class for head coach Danny Rocco, posted a 32-13 career record, which is five more wins than the 1997 and 1998 teams, who previously held the record for most wins by a senior class (27-17). Individually, younger players had the most notable performances. Sophomores Mike Brown and Chris Summers left their mark on Liberty's receiving totals, while fellow sophomore Matt Bevins booted his way into Liberty's annals by rewriting several kicking records. Finally, Liberty once again continued to shatter attendance records, as a ticket to see a Flames home football game was a hot item in the Central Virginia area.
