Jelena Antic and the Lady Flames will tip off the 2009-10 season two weeks from today (Nov. 13), when they host Winston-Salem State at 7 p.m.

Seven seniors graduated from the 2008-09 Liberty women's basketball team, which went 24-9 and captured the program's 12th Big South title in 13 seasons. As a result, Lady Flame fans will see a lot of new faces on the court this year, including freshman guard/forward Jelena Antic. will provide a brief introduction of the Lady Flames' newcomers, leading up to the season opener versus Winston-Salem State on Nov. 13.

Jelena Antic, a 6-2 guard/forward, may already be familiar to local fans, after playing high school basketball at Liberty Christian Academy. As a senior, she led the Bulldogs to their first-ever Virginia Independent Schools (VIS) Division I state runner-up finish. Antic was tabbed the 2009 VIS Division I State Player of the Year, after averaging 20.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 5.0 apg.

Antic, a native of Skopje, Macedonia, has also gained valuable experience as a member of her country's under-19 national team. She comes from an athletic family, as her father played professional basketball in the former Yugoslavia and has served as a coach in Macedonia.

2009-10 Outlook: Antic could provide matchup problems for opponents, because she possesses the ability to play on the perimeter or under the basket at 6-2. She actually played point guard for her high school team last year. Antic's versatility could lead to considerable playing time as a freshman.

From the Head Coach: "Jelena is a very experienced international player who adds a different dimension to our team because of her skills. She sees the floor well and has a high basketball IQ. She makes everyone around her better and will have a major impact on the success of our team."
