Matt Bevins was honored twice today, once by the Big South as Special Teams Player of the Week and the second time when he was named to the College Sporting News Weekly All-Star list.

Following a career day against Coastal Carolina, honors continue to roll in for Flames' kicker Matt Bevins, who was named to the College Sporting News national weekly all-star list, as announced by the web site earlier today.

Bevins (So., K, Newport News, Va.) took home one of four Big South weekly honors earlier this afternoon, when he was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week.

The sophomore tallied a career-best 14 points, helping Liberty to a 58-13 win over Coastal Carolina. The 45-point win was the second-largest margin of victory by a Big South team in a conference game in league history.

Bevins racked up his 14 points thanks to him knocking down 3-of-3 field goals, while connecting on all five of his point-after attempts. The kicker's previous career high of 13 points was set during last year's road victory at Coastal Carolina.

Bevins has now hit his last six field goal attempts, sending field goals of 24, 31 and 42 yards through the uprights against the Chanticleers on Saturday. The 42-yarder gave the sophomore four-straight successful field goal attempts ranging beyond 40 yards.

The Newport News, Va., native also reached a new milestone during the contest, as his 14 points pushed him beyond the century mark for career points scored. Bevins has now tallied 102 career points since taking over as the Flames' kicker, last year.

Bevins is the second Flame this year to be honored as a College Sporting News national weekly all-star. Mike Brown was named to the national list on Sept. 21 after he led the Flames to a 19-13 road victory over Lafayette.

Joining Bevins on this week's CSN Weekly All-Star list were Fordham quarterback John Skelton, Villanova defensive back Fred Maldonado and Eastern Kentucky defensive back Patrick McClellan.

Bevins and the Flames will return to the gridiron on Saturday, when Liberty travels to Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern in Big South action. The Flames, who will be looking to extend the Big South's longest league winning streak to 13 games, are scheduled to take the field at CSU Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
