The Liberty Lady Flames women's soccer team picked up its first win of 2009, Sunday afternoon, with a 2-1 win over the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State.

The first half of the match was action-packed as each team took nine shots. East Tennessee State took controlled play early, as Tori Head took the first shot of the contest in the second minute, which was saved by Liberty keeper Karen Blocker. The Buccaneers continued putting pressure on the Lady Flames' defense, taking four more shots over the next three minutes.

Liberty answered at the 7:59 mark, when Elia Lake took her first shot of the season, followed by a Maria Owen attempt in the eighth minute that sailed high.

The Buccaneers came back in the 12th minute with three shots, two of which were stopped by Blocker.
Lake tallied her second shot of the game at 16:34, which was wide, and Aimee Luurtsema sent one toward the goal at 18:03 which also went wide.
