Left-hander Shawn Teufel won his sixth consecutive start Saturday.

Tyler Bream drove in six runs and Liberty pitchers held Gardner-Webb hitters in check throughout the contest, as the Flames downed the Bulldogs, 10-2, Saturday afternoon in Big South baseball action at Masters Field.

With the victory, Liberty runs its Big South record to 15-4 and 28-13 overall. Gardner-Webb drops to 10-7 in conference play and 21-17 overall.

Tyler Bream (Fr., Zelienople, Pa.), who was 4-for-4 in the contest, ripped a pair of two-out, two-run base hits in first and the third innings. In the first, the Liberty third baseman singled and in the third, he doubled. He drove in his final two runs in the ninth with a single.

Liberty starter Shawn Teufel (Jr., LHP, Tequesta, Fla.) wins his sixth consecutive start, running his record to 7-1 on the year. The left-hander gave up one run, while scattering six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Carter Browning (Jr., RHP, Ada, Okla.) pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning, recording two outs. Andrew Wilson (Sr, RHP, Cary, Okla.) came on in the eighth inning to also end a bases loaded Bulldog threat. The trio of hurlers stranded 12 Gardner-Webb runners and blanked Bulldog hitters with runners in scoring position, as the Flames' hosts went 0-12 with men on second or third base through the first eight innings. John Long (Fr., RHP, Anderson, S.C.) pitched the ninth.

Liberty staked itself to a 3-0 lead in its opening at bat. With one out, center fielder Curran Redal (Jr., Moses Lake, Wash.) was hit by a pitch. The next two Flames batters, left-fielder Doug Bream (So., Elizabethtown, Pa.) and catcher Errol Hollinger (Sr., Upland, Calif.) each drew walks, loading the bases. After a fly out, third baseman Tyler Bream dropped a two-out single into center field, plating Redal and Doug Bream for a 2-0 advantage. Right-fielder Tim Rotola (Sr., Wichita, Kan.) followed with a sharply hit single through the middle of the infield, chasing home Hollinger with the third run of the inning.

In the third inning, Liberty extended its advantage, striking for runs on another two-out hit by Tyler Bream. With two outs, designated hitter Cody Brown (Sr., Cumming, Ga.) doubled into the left field corner, moving Doug Bream, who had walked earlier, to third base. Tyler Bream followed by ripping a two-base hit off the wall in left-center field to cash in both runners, upping the Flames' edge to 5-0.

Gardner-Webb got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Third baseman Justin Loyd walked to open the frame and advanced to third base on a single by first baseman Kurt Fulginiti. Loyd then scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher Ty Boyles to make it, 5-1 Liberty.

Liberty put the contest away in the top of the ninth. Doug Bream reached on a throwing error by third baseman Loyd. Hollinger followed with a single through the left side of the infield, advancing pinch runner Casey Brown (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif.) to third base. Cody Brown then laced his second double of the contest into the left field corner, scoring Casey Brown for a 6-1 advantage. Tyler Bream followed at the plate, clearing the bases with a RBI single for an 8-1 lead. Rotola capped the five-run burst with his first home run of the year, lining the round tripper over the right field wall for a 10-1 lead.

Gardner-Webb plated a run in the bottom of the inning for the final margin of 10-2.

Besides Tyler Bream with four hits, Cody Brown had three hits for the Flames. Four Bulldogs had two hits each in the contest.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon in the final game and rubber match of their three-game series at Masters Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
