Liberty's offense, fueled by three runs in the top of the fourth inning, pushed the Lady Flames to a 6-2 victory over Delaware State in the Seahawk Classic at UNC Wilmington Friday night.
Liberty (1-6) enjoyed its first win of 2009, handing the Hornets (4-1) their first loss of the year in the process.

Liberty designated player Jenna Eatmon kicked off the scoring for the Lady Flames when she busted a single to right field in the top of the second inning, scoring Kaylee West.

Liberty's bats stayed hot as West doubled to lead off the top of the fourth inning. Beth Bennett and Danielle Howard then walked to load the bases. After Eatmon popped out to short, J'nae Jefferson extended the Lady Flames' lead to 3-0 with a single up the middle to score two runs. Liberty scored again to make it 4-0 when Jenny Law doubled down the left field line.

The hitting streak continued in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Cassie Hendrix scored pinch-runner Meredith Baisden when she grounded out to third base, and freshman Jenny Law belted a single up the middle. Catcher Keely McMillon then scored Law to make the score 6-0 when she doubled to right center.

Delaware State threatened to cut the score in half in the bottom of the sixth, but could not capitalize and stranded three runners.

The Hornets escaped the shutout in the bottom of the seventh when Megan Lambertz singled to left field to score Courtney Taylor, who reached on a Liberty error.

Jefferson led the Lady Flames with two RBIs, while Hendrix, Law and McMillon tallied one RBI each.
Delaware State was led by Megan Lambertz, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
