Toby Lewis and Adrian Bumbut each scored a goal as the Liberty Flames shut out the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 2-0, Saturday afternoon, in Big South men's soccer action at Greenwood Field.

Controlling play with a strong effort for the full 90 minutes, Liberty scored once in each half in the victory.

The Flames came out and dominated early scoring on their first shot of the game.  Jonathan Burklo (Sr., D, Tampa, Fla.) sent a perfect pass to Toby Lewis (So., F, Morrison, Colo.) who scored from three yards out at the 17:04 mark.  It was the sophomore's sixth of the season.

Liberty's defense stifled the Bulldogs for the rest of the half as Asheville didn't get a shot off in the first half.   The Flames out shot the Bulldogs, 4-0, in the opening half.

In the second half, Liberty added its second goal at the 55:53 mark. Adrian Bumbut (Jr., F, Zalau, Romania) scored off a pass from Lewis to push the lead to 2-0.  The goal was Bumbut's team-leading seventh of the season.

The Bulldogs fired five shots on goal in the second. UNC Asheville just missed scoring when Ryan Haupt's direct kick was stopped by Flames' goalkeeper Kevin Mahan (Sr., Waterford, Mich.) in the match's 65th minute.

Mahan earned his third shutout of the season as Liberty outshot the Bulldogs, 10-5.

With the road victory, Liberty moves to 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Big South Conference.  UNC Asheville drops to 2-12-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the conference play.

"Overall, I am very, very pleased with getting a win down here," commented Flames' head coach Jeff Alder.  "Coach (Steve) Cornish does a great job with (UNC) Asheville.  They are always very organized, very disciplined and very good in transition."

"For our guys to come down here and find a way to get a result, speaks volume of their character.  And, I think it is something for us to build on as we go into Coastal (Carolina)".

In its final regular season game, Liberty travels to Coastal Carolina for a key league contest next Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
