The Liberty men's soccer team will be without the services of forward Darren Amoo, Flames head coach Jeff Alder announced this afternoon.

Amoo, a redshirt freshman from Accra, Ghana, suffered an ACL injury, when he was pulled down from behind in the fourth game of the season. The forward will have surgery to repair the injury immediately and Liberty will seek a medical redshirt for Amoo.

"I'm very disappointed for Darren because he put some much work into preparing for this season. He was on pace to make a run at Darryl Robert's single-season scoring record, as well as, help our program continue to grow," stated Alder. "Our guys have been a huge support to him during this time and have showed the resolve needed to move forward and compete at a high level."

"Our point of reference is last year's group, which lost two players to ACL injuries and one player each to a broken jaw and broken leg, and we were still able to serve God through soccer at a championship level. I'm excited to see what God is going to do through this group of men as we maintain our focus vertically on Him and not horizontally on the things around us that we can't control."

At the time of the injury, Amoo was ranked seventh in the country in scoring. The forward had scored four goals during his first three collegiate contests. In his first game in a Liberty uniform, he netted three goals, as the Flames defeated Bluefield, 3-1, in their 2008 opener.

Liberty hosts High Point tonight in a Big South contest at Liberty Soccer Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
