Men's Soccer Moves Up in South Atlantic Poll

The Liberty men's soccer team moved up three spots in the latest NSCAA South Atlantic Region Poll, which was released this afternoon.

The Flames, 4-2 on the season, jump up to the No. 7 spot in the weekly poll, up from No. 10 last week. Maryland, 5-1 on the year, continues to top the South Atlantic Region rankings.

This past week, Liberty split two matches. The Flames fell to the North Carolina Tar Heels, ranked No. 7 nationally, Tuesday, 4-1. Friday, Liberty rebounded with a 3-0 win at Howard, the Flames' second shutout of the year. In the contest, Liberty goalkeeper Paul Gilbert (So., Rockvale, Tenn.) made a career-high eight saves in recording his 10th career shutout. Juan Nino (Fr., MF, Katy, Texas) scored his first collegiate goal and assisted on another tally, while Chris Phillips (R-Fr., MF, Brownsburg, Ind.) and Chris Mandell (R-Jr., F, Bowling Green, Va.) each netted their first goal of the season in the victory.

Liberty travels to Rock Hill, S.C., on Friday for a Big South Conference match with Winthrop, who also received votes in this week's South Atlantic Region poll. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
