Seth Curry is the first in a seven-part series highlighting the men's basketball freshmen class. Basketball Times rated the Liberty class in its Top 50.

In January Basketball Times, a publication covering collegiate basketball for over 25 years, ranked Liberty's 2008 recruiting class at No. 48 in the nation.

The Basketball Times ranked its Top 50, and Liberty joined No. 26 Xavier, No. 31 Rhode Island, No. 36 Fresno State, No. 36 New Mexico, No. 36 St. Louis, No. 41 Dayton, No. 50 Hofstra and No. 50 Gonzaga as the only schools that are not a part of a BCS football power conference.

After the Basketball Times Top 50 list came out, Liberty added Jesse Sanders and Bill Weaver to the incoming class, which would have given the Flames a higher place in the Top 50. Sanders decommitted from a verbal agreement with Conference USA member Rice to attend Liberty, while Weaver did the same at Brown.

The honored recruiting class is now on campus and is going to highlight each freshman in a new seven-part series. Over the next seven Thursdays, will bring you a short question and answer session with incoming freshmen. This week we will start with guard Seth Curry.

The Curry trio from left to right: Stephen, Seth and Dell.
Curry is the son of one of the NBA's most prolific three-point shooters in history, Dell Curry. A 6-3 combo guard from Charlotte, N.C., Curry has been a huge piece to Charlotte Christian's success over the past few years. As a senior, Curry averaged 22.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists. Curry connected on 52.0 percent of his field goal attempts, while hitting three-point shots at a 49.0 percent success rate. During his senior campaign, Curry earned all-conference, all-state and first team CSAA All-American accolades. Curry also was a McDonald's All-American nominee.

Curry chose Liberty over his father's alma mater, Virginia Tech, and Davidson, where his older brother Stephen, currently plays, earning an All-America honors.

Ritchie McKay's Quote Upon Signing Seth Curry
"I would have recruited Seth at any level," said McKay. "He is a versatile guard who has a tremendous future ahead of him. Without question, he will make an immediate impact on our team and program."

Sitting Down with Seth Curry

Why did you decide to attend Liberty?
I decided on Liberty because of the relationships I developed with the coaches during the recruiting process. My official visit to Lynchburg was the best visit I had and the coaching staff gave the most confidence in playing for them. It was a gut feeling, I definitely felt led to come here.

What was it about Coach McKay that made you want to come and play for him?
I wanted to come and play for Coach McKay because of the confidence he showed in me. I could see how bad he wanted me to play for him.

What does it feel like to be a part of a Top 50 recruiting class?
To be a part of a Top 50 recruiting class feels awesome. It's great to know the people I am coming in with will most likely be here for four years. From day one we can really build something special from the ground up.

You spent some time on campus this summer going to school and playing pickup games with most of the team. This is the first time you guys have all been together, how did you feel the team jelled?

We are jelling really well right now. We hang out a lot off the court, developing great chemistry all around the team. Everyone likes each other and we all get along.

How Important is Chemistry?
Chemistry is very important. It grows with time, but you need to have it to be a successful team. Without it, you can end up with players not playing for the team, but themselves.

Thus far, how has the Liberty experience been for you?
It has been good so far. I am trying to get to know different students on campus, meet new friends. I have enjoyed the college experience so far.

In your short time in Lynchburg, have you found a favorite hangout yet?
Buffalo Wild Wings every Tuesday and Thursday for their 40 cent wings. Its good stuff.

Favorite Wings?

How has watching your brother the past couple years at Davidson inspired you to help Liberty reach similar heights?
Watching Stephen gives me more confidence because even though I might not be at a big name school, if you and your teammates get along, you come to play and believe in yourself, you can beat anybody, no matter where you are at.

Who is most likely to be late to a meeting because they are looking in the mirror?
That would most definitely be Jesse Sanders. We call him "the model".
