Dave Williams, Liberty's associate head strength and conditioning coach, has been named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).

Being named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach is the highest honor given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession and the ceremony is the highlight of the association's national conference each year. When named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, the recipient is presented with the blue MSCC Jacket. Williams was presented his jacket by Liberty's head strength and conditioning coordinator Bill Gillespie, himself a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach.

"Presenting Coach Williams with his jacket was a great honor for me because he was my mentor," commented Gillespie. "When you receive your blue MSCC jacket, it must be presented by another Master Strength and Conditioning Coach. Since Coach Williams did not have his when I received mine, the best way to honor a man that I hold so dear in my heart was by having a former assistant of his present my jacket to me. It was very special to stand up there with Coach Williams and be a part of his day."

There are only 70 Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches in the world and Liberty is now the only institution from what is formally known as I-AA to have two honorees in the same strength and conditioning program.

In order to receive this certification and corresponding title of distinction, an individual must meet the following criteria: hold a minimum of a bachelors degree; be a currently practicing, full-time strength & conditioning coach on the collegiate or professional level; hold current membership in the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa); hold the CSCCa Certification – SCCC (Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified); and be a full-time, collegiate, and/or professional strength & conditioning coach for a minimum of 12 years.

Ten collegiate strength & conditioning coaches received the prestigious certification of Master Strength & Conditioning Coach at the 2008 MSCC Ceremony: Gary Calcagno (Oklahoma State University); Falcone (Duke University); Chuck Faucette (St. Louis Rams); John Grieco (UNLV); Marc Hill (University of Kentucky); Barry Kagan (University of Maryland); Donnie Maib (University of Texas); Ethan Reeve (Wake Forest University); Scott Reeves (Texas A&M University); and Dave Williams (Liberty University).
