Josh McDougal recently wrapped up his spectacular running career at Liberty, but he is not yet finished winning awards. Today, the 14-time All-American won the Big South Conference Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year award for the fourth year in a row.

McDougal (Sr., Peru, N.Y.) becomes the first four-time winner of the conference's annual award, voted on by the league's head track & field coaches at their June meeting. Charleston Southern sprinter Dionne Gibson, who recently won her first All-America certificate, was tabbed as the Big South Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

McDougal's senior season featured three All-America recognitions, including his first NCAA national title. On Nov. 19, McDougal outkicked Oregon's Galen Rupp to capture the NCAA National Cross Country Championship. At the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, McDougal added two more All-America distinctions, by placing fifth at 5,000 meters and sixth at 3,000 meters.

The Empire State native enjoyed an undefeated senior cross country season, winning all five of his races. In addition to his victory at the NCAA national meet, he won his third NCAA Southeast Regional championship, third consecutive Pre-Nationals crown and fourth straight Big South title. McDougal became the first runner in conference history to win a quartet of Big South cross country championships.

At season's end, McDougal garnered a pair of U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) awards. He was tabbed as the USTFCCCA Division I National Men's Athlete of the Year and the USTFCCCA Division I Southeast Region Men's Athlete of the Year.

McDougal raced sparingly during the indoor track & field season, but still posted several noteworthy performances. He opened his year with a 13:45.16 clocking at the Liberty Kickoff meet. The time ranked No. 2 in the world for the 2007-08 indoor track campaign.

The senior also earned his third straight Men's Outstanding Track Performer award at the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships, after winning the mile and 3,000-meter races. The victories made McDougal a 17-time Big South event champion for his career.

McDougal's final outdoor track & field season was highlighted by a 13:37.13 performance at the Mt. SAC Relays 5,000-meter race. The time ranked No. 6 on the NCAA year-end performance list.

Also under consideration for the Big South Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year award was McDougal's classmate, Clendon Henderson (Sr., Meadow, Texas). Henderson recently capped his Liberty career with a third-place finish in the discus at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
