The defending Big South champion Liberty volleyball team has added a ninth home match to its 2008 schedule. The Lady Flames will host in-state rival VCU for their home opener, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. inside the Vines Center.

Liberty, which enters the 2008 campaign on an 11-match home winning streak, will welcome VCU to Lynchburg for the first time since 2004. The Lady Flames dropped decisions at VCU in both 2005 and 2007, but still lead the all-time head-to-head series by a 13-8 count.
The Rams, coached by James Finley, are coming off a 12-21 season. VCU returns a pair of players who were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) a year ago. Senior libero Laryssa Goncalves was a third-team All-CAA selection, while sophomore middle blocker Jessica Ojukwu made the CAA All-Rookie team.

Liberty will get to see the Rams in action during the season's opening weekend, as the Lady Flames participate in the VCU Third Degree Sportswear Invitational. Liberty will not face the host team during the tournament, which will begin Aug. 29. Rather, the Lady Flames will open the year with contests against N.C. State, Central Michigan and Maryland.
