ASUN Release

After a strong showing in the circle during a 5-0 week, Liberty freshman Karlie Keeney was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week.

A native on Providence, Ky., Keeney receives her first career pitcher of the week honor. She joins teammate Emily Kirby, who was named ASUN Pitcher of the Week on March 22 and April 19. The Lady Flames have tied a program record for most ASUN Pitcher of the Week honors in a single season, as Julia DiMartino received the honor three times in 2019.

Karlie Keeney had a fantastic week for the Lady Flames, going 3-0 with a 0.38 ERA, one shutout, one save, nine strikeouts, four walks and a .197 opponents batting average. Liberty posted a 5-0 week, including a win over No. 18 Virginia Tech. Keeney finished the week on a personal 14 2/3 shutout innings streak.

She began the week with a victory over Bellarmine on Monday, allowing one run on four hits, striking out five and walking one in four innings as the starter.

On Wednesday against No. 18 Virginia Tech, she entered the game in relief of Emily Kirby, trailing 3-0 in the top of the third. She went on to stymie the Hokies, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out three and walking one. She tossed 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings as Liberty came back for a 5-3, walk-off win.

Keeney tossed a complete-game five-hit shutout, her fifth shutout of the season, at Kennesaw State on Saturday, walking two and striking out one. She held the Owls' offense scoreless, helping Liberty ultimately clinch the ASUN North Division No. 1 seed later that day.

On Sunday, she entered the circle in relief of Emily Kirby with one out and the bases loaded and Liberty leading KSU, 3-1. The right-hander got a pair of fielder's choice grounders, nailing down her third save of the season and clinching the sweep.

The Lady Flames (37-12, 16-2 ASUN) bring a 16-game winning streak into tomorrow's game at Virginia Tech. Liberty, the top seed in the ASUN North Division, will host fourth-seeded Lipscomb this weekend for a three-game ASUN Softball Championship quarterfinal series.
