Liberty Clinches ASUN North 1st Seed With Doubleheader Sweep of KSU

ASUN Bracket

Liberty blanked Kennesaw State 1-0 in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday at KSU's Bailey Park. With their doubleheader sweep of the Owls today, Liberty has clinched the No. 1 seed in the ASUN North Division for the 2021 ASUN Softball Championship. Kennesaw State, who entered today needing a series victory this weekend to clinch the first seed, will serve as the No. 2 seed in the North Division.

The Lady Flames (36-12, 15-2 ASUN North) extended their winning streak to 15 games overall and 12 straight in ASUN play. Meanwhile, the Owls fall to 22-22, 10-4 in ASUN North Division play entering tomorrow's series finale.

Liberty will host ASUN North Division fourth seed, Lipscomb, in a best-of-three quarterfinal series. KSU will host third-seeded North Alabama next Friday and Saturday. The winners of those two series will join the winners of the ASUN South Division series at the ASUN Softball Championship semifinals, May 13-15 at KSU's Bailey Park. Game times for the quarterfinal series are to be determined.

Turning Point

- KSU threatened in the bottom of the sixth, as Florence led off with a double and went to third on a groundout. Kirby then struck out the Owls' cleanup (Cheyanne Sales) and fifth batter (Taylor Cates) in order, keeping it a 1-0 game. A 1-2-3 seventh sealed the victory.
