BIG EAST Release

Senior Jill Bolton of the Liberty field hockey team earned her third BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week of the season, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

In addition to Bolton's recognition, junior Charlotte Vaanhold garnered inclusion on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Bolton has now earned four career BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Lady Flames have received 18 BIG EAST weekly awards through nine weeks of the season and 22 total accolades, including four at the national level.

Bolton recorded her second career three-goal effort and added two assists for a career-high eight points in Sunday's 9-0 home win for No. 6 Liberty over Davidson. The forward from Souderton, Pa., scored her three goals in the 17th, 25th and 32nd minutes, the third of which put the Lady Flames ahead 6-0 at the time.

Bolton also assisted on the first goal of the day from Vaanhold in the third minute and set up sophomore forward Mackinzie Thompson's second career goal at 54:40. Bolton attempted a career-best 10 shots in the match, six of which were on cage.

Bolton is enjoying a career year this spring, as she leads the team in points (40), shares the team lead in assists (12) and is second in goals (14). The senior currently ranks sixth in the nation in points per game (2.67), eighth in assists per game (0.80) and 10th in goals per game (0.93).

This is the first career weekly honor for Vaanhold, who was a 2019 All-BIG EAST second team selection. She notched her second hat trick of the season on Sunday versus Davidson. The forward from Hollandsche Rading, Netherlands recorded the game's first two goals at 2:46 and 5:59 and added another goal, her ninth of 2021, in the 48th minute.

In 15 games this season, Vaanhold has nine goals (third on team), two assists and 20 points (tied for third on team). The junior has scored three game-winning goals this season.

Liberty, who moved up one spot to No. 5 in today's national coaches poll, will begin preparing for the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, held April 22-24 at the Villanova Field Hockey Field in Conshohocken, Pa. More information about the tournament, including an official bracket, will be available once regular season play concludes for all BIG EAST schools.
