Liberty field hockey sophomore Bethany Dykema has been named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday by the conference.

This is Dykema's first career BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor. She received BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition for the first time on Feb. 22.

In addition to Dykema's award, sophomore Jodie Conolly garnered BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll distinction for the first time. Through eight weeks of the season, Liberty has received 16 total awards from the conference.

Dykema, a defender, had two goals, three assists and seven points this past weekend in a pair of home BIG EAST wins for the Lady Flames against Temple.  Liberty bested Temple 4-2 on Saturday and earned a 2-0 shutout on Sunday.

On Saturday, Dykema scored the final two Liberty goals, both in the fourth quarter on penalty corners. Her two goals marked a new career high and were her second and third markers of the season.

Dykema also assisted on Conolly's go-ahead goal at 29:20 mark, putting Liberty ahead 2-1. Against the Owls on Sunday, Dykema assisted on both Conolly goals as the penalty corner inserter. Liberty scored all six of its goals over the weekend on penalty corners and earned 26 short corners in two games. Through 14 games this season, Dykema leads the team with 11 assists, ranks third in points (17) and also has three goals.

Conolly, a defender, paced Liberty in goals (3) and points (8) in the two games versus Temple. She also had two assists against the Owls. In Saturday's triumph, she tallied one goal and had two assists for four points. Conolly scored late in the first half (29:20) on a penalty corner to give Liberty a 2-1 edge. Conolly also assisted on Lizzie Hamlett's first goal of the season in the 15th minute and assisted on Dykema's last goal to give Liberty the 4-2 win.

On Sunday, Conolly scored both Liberty goals on penalty corners (3:24 mark and 20:32 mark). In 14 games this year, Conolly is tied for third on the squad with six goals and has two assists and 14 points.

Dykema, Conolly and No. 6 Liberty (12-2, 10-2 BIG EAST) will close out regular season play with a home game versus the Davidson Wildcats (4-4), Sunday at 2 p.m.
