Liberty dropped its ASUN Conference opener Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium, falling to Bellarmine 1-0. Liberty drops to 1-2-2, while Bellarmine improves to 1-2 on the season.
89' – BELLARMINE– Elise Markley (Assist by Isabella Zamborini)
Liberty and Bellarmine both did an exceptional job of keeping each other's offense away from the goal in the first half as the two combined to get just three goals on target in the first half. Liberty was able to control possession and get quality looks on goal, but Bellarmine's backline was able to keep Liberty scoreless. In the final two minutes of the game, Bellarmine was able to capitalize with its third shot on goal that proved to be the difference maker, giving Bellarmine the win.
Key Stats & Notes
Thoughts from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"We play really good soccer for periods of time, but we are just not consistent enough and not making enough plays in the attack. Every game we have played in this season we have outshot the opponent, we have created chances to score but we are not getting that productivity right now."
Liberty will return to action next week for two games starting on the road at Kennesaw State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
