ASUN Release

Liberty women's tennis player Tiffany Nguyen has been selected as the ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

This is the first career player of the week for Nguyen. The second-year player from Thu Dau Mot, Vietnam went 2-0 in both singles and doubles in the Lady Flames' first two matches in the new Liberty Indoor Tennis Center against Davidson and Towson, last Saturday.

"Tif has done an amazing job of growing and maturing on court and with the team," said Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "Her extra efforts have been noticed by us, and I'm glad that the conference also recognizes her achievements as well."

In singles, Nguyen topped Davidson's Nicole Krykanov 6-3, 6-3 and Towson's Amelia Lawson, both in the No. 2 slot in the lineup. She is 5-1 (1-0 No. 1, 4-1 No. 2) in singles in 2021.

In doubles play, Nguyen teamed up with Micaela Ode Mitre for a pair of victories in the No. 2 position. The duo bested Davidson's Mira Gladstone and Franny Shea 6-3 to secure the first-ever doubles point in the new facility. Earlier in the match, the Lady Flames pairing earned the first-ever Liberty point and first-ever game victory in the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center as well.

Later in the day, Nguyen and Ode Mitre bested Towson's Jessica Assenmacher and Sarah Pospischill 6-0. They are now 6-0 on the year, with five of those victories coming in the No. 2 position and one in the No. 3 slot.

Nguyen is Liberty's first player of the week recipient since Esther Lovato received the honor on Feb. 26, 2020.

Nguyen and unbeaten Liberty (6-0) will head to Florida for two matches this weekend. The Lady Flames will face the FGCU Eagles (0-2), Friday at 11 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex. On Sunday, Liberty travels to Tampa, Fla., for a showdown versus the South Florida Bulls (2-5) at noon.
