Chad Simpson was a straight set winner.
With a win under its belt, the Liberty men's tennis team looked to continue its winning ways in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Tuesday. The men squared off against the Broncos of Hastings, completing a 7-0 sweep for the first time this season. Liberty's tandem of senior Jarda Trojan and freshman Leandro Schujmann kicked things off for the Flames, taking No.1 doubles, 8-4. Chad Simpson and Juan Reyes helped secured the point for the Liberty, defeating Hastings' Toby Martinez and Travis Bronson, 8-3. Sebastian Pena and Rafael Riso completed the Liberty sweep in doubles, beating Hastings' No. 3 doubles duo, 8-0. Success did not end for the Flames, as they won all six singles matches in straight sets. Pena captured the No. 1 singles point, defeating Hastings' Wil Hotz, 6-0, 6-2. Simpson, Schujmann and Reyes did not drop a game between them in No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles, each winning his match, 6-0, 6-0. Trojan also won in convincing fashion, taking No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Liberty's Franco Valdez returned to action in No. 5 singles, defeating Hastings' Matt Kern, 6-2, 6-0. Winners of two straight matches, the Flames look to remain undefeated during their Spring Break campaign, when they battle McMurry in an evening contest. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
