Liberty Basketball Adds Peebles and Venzant on Signing Day

Ritchie McKay and Liberty men's basketball announced a pair of newcomers on National Signing Day, signing Brody Peebles and Joseph Venzant.

"It is a great day for the Flames. To add these two players to our backcourt, I think is a tremendous addition to the really good players we already have in our program," McKay said. "I am excited about their immediate impact and the prospects of that but I am also excited about them as individuals. Liberty University is a special place and these two young men will add value to our already tremendous campus. They are from great families that really have an intentionality about being a part of something bigger than themselves."

Brody Peebles is one of those silent assassins; when he gets on the court and behind those lines, he is a dog competitor. He has a natural, instinctive ability in the game of basketball. Coach Key did a great job and I think Brody has greatness ahead of him. I compare him a little bit to Ty Jerome when I saw him in high school."

Joseph Venzant | 6-3 | Guard | Midland, Texas

Venzant arrives in Lynchburg rated as the highest recruit in school history, as he is ranked as a three-star prospect and ranked as the 49th best shooting guard in the nation by He is ranked as the 20th best prospect in the state of Texas by 247 Sports. Under head coach Chris Ryburn at Midland Christian, Venzant was a three-year starter and a two-year captain where he was a First Team All-State selection and was the District MVP. Venzant played on the Under Armour Circuit for Texas Hardwork under head coach Lupe Nunez.

Coach McKay Quote: "I am really excited about the addition of Joseph Venzant to our program. As a player he brings to our family a toughness defensively that is way ahead. He has got length, toughness, physicality and anticipation. He reminds me of a guard that we used to have at Virginia, Malcom Brogdon, on the defensive end of the floor. Offensively he has just got a smoothness to his game that I think will fit well in our program."
