As the 2020-21 Liberty men's basketball schedule continues to take form, the Flames are set to play in the Space Coast Challenge, Nov. 25 and 26 in Melbourne, Fla., as part of a four-team field that also includes Clemson, Mississippi State and Purdue. To tip off the season, the Flames will face Purdue on the CBS Sports Network, Nov. 25.
With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing changes throughout college basketball, Triple Crown Sports cancelled the 2020 Cancun Challenge and in its place will run the Space Coast Challenge at the Titan Field House on the campus of Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Fla.
Last season, the Boilermakers went 16-15 and in the final 2020 AP Top 25 Poll, both Liberty and Purdue received one vote in the poll. In the first release on the KenPom rankings for the upcoming season, Purdue was ranked No. 25 overall and the seventh highest team in the Big Ten.
This will be the first time since 2016 that the Flames have faced an opponent (Indiana) from the Big Ten Conference.
To wrap up the Space Coast Challenge on Nov. 26, the Flames will either face the winner/loser of the Clemson vs. Mississippi State contest. Liberty last faced Mississippi State in 2019, defeating the Bulldogs for the program's first-ever win in the NCAA Tournament. The Flames have faced Clemson five times, with the most recent matchup coming back in 2009.
