Continuing its strong season both on and off the course, Liberty has placed a record six student-athletes on the 2020 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team.

The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released the 2020 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team in two waves this season.

During the first wave, Liberty's Zach Barbin, Ervin Chang, Alexandre Fuchs and Connor Polender were named to the team in June. The Flames' Kieran Vincent and Jonathan Yaun joined the list of honorees during the GCAA's second wave announcement earlier this week.

The six selections are the most for Liberty in a single season in program history. Prior to this year, Liberty only had one other year where the Flames had multiple selections (2014 – Mathieu Fenasse and Ian McConnell).

The GCAA did alter some of the qualifications for this award this season, which included allowing sophomore student-athletes being named to the team.

This qualification adjustment allowed Polender and Yaun to be named to the All-America Scholar team, joining their four fellow upperclassmen teammates.

Liberty's half dozen selections to this year's All-America Scholar team gives the program 19 players in program history to be named to golf's top collegiate academic team.

Liberty has had a player named to the Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team each of the last four years and 24 times overall since 1993.

Chang was named to the All-America Scholar team for the second year in a row, becoming the sixth golfer in program history to be named to the team multiple times.

A record number 1,018 student-athletes earned All-America Scholar status this past academic season, including 571 student-athletes at the Division I level, 187 in Division II, 190 in Division III, 46 in NAIA and 24 at the NJCAA level.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA.

In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.

The six players selected to this year's Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar team helped the Flames finish the shortened 2019-20 season ranked No. 32 in the Golfstat rankings. Liberty was the top ranked ASUN Conference team in the final national rankings for the season.
