The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the 2019-20 NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards, which included Liberty men's basketball. Liberty is one of two schools in the ASUN Conference to receive this award this season, joining FGCU.
"This award is a symbol of what we strive for in our basketball program," head coach Ritchie McKay said. "The same passion that our players displayed on the court is the same work ethic they show in the classroom. This award wouldn't be possible without Kristie Beitz, and the rest of our academic staff."
In order to make the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, the team must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. During the 2019-20 school year, the men's basketball team posted a 3.32 GPA with 10 players posting a 3.0 GPA or better. This is the eight annual NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and Liberty has received the honor for the second straight season.
The team achievement comes a day after six players were also named to the NABC Honors Court as Tytist Dean, Scottie James, Keegan McDowell, Blake Preston, Josh Price and Colton Reed received the honor.
