The fifth season of competition at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex will be action-packed.
2021 Liberty Indoor Track & Field Schedule The fifth season of competition at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex and the first under new Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lance Bingham will open with an exclamation point in the form of the Liberty Elite Invitational (Jan. 21-23). The first of the Flames' four home meets during the 2021 indoor season will feature a visit from Northern Arizona's national power distance squad.
What's New? NAU, which has won three of the last four NCAA men's cross country national titles, will anchor the Liberty Elite Invitational's distance carnival on Jan. 22. It will mark the Lumberjacks' first visit to Lynchburg and a homecoming for NAU assistant Jarred Cornfield, a 2014 Liberty graduate.
The Liberty Elite Invitational will be a three-day meet to better accommodate the multi events. The heptathlon will get the meet started on Jan. 21-22, while the pentathlon will take place Jan. 22.
Recognizing a Legend Brant Tolsma recently retired after spending 34 seasons as the head coach of Liberty's track & field/cross country program. The longest-tenured head coach in Liberty Athletics history, Tolsma coached the Flames to 116 conference championships.
In honor of Tolsma's accomplishments, Liberty's Feb. 5-6 home meet, previously known as the Liberty Flames Invite, has been renamed the Brant Tolsma Invitational.
Fabulous February Liberty will spend the entire month of February at home, playing host to the aforementioned Brant Tolsma Invitational (Feb. 5-6), the seventh annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 12-13) and the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 26-27).
This will mark the fourth straight season the ASUN indoor meet is contested at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Familiar Beginning For the third consecutive season, the Flames and Lady Flames will open the campaign at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. The Virginia Tech Invitational is set for Jan. 15-16.
First Time in a Decade Liberty's lone regular-season meet outside the Commonwealth of Virginia will be the Bob Pollock Meet, Jan. 29-30 at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex in Clemson, S.C.
The Flames will compete at Clemson for the first time since sweeping the men's and women's team titles at the 2011 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. Since then, the Tigers' facility has been converted from a flat track to a banked track.
NCAA Notes For the first time since 2015, the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place at the Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., March 12-13.
