Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award

As part of its wrap-up coverage of the 2019-20 athletics season, LibertyFlames.com will run a series of interviews with the nominees for the 2020 Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award.

In 1975, the Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award was established to honor the top senior student-athlete at Liberty University who best exemplifies the standards and lives of both of these great Christian men.  Rock Royer was Liberty's first football coach in 1973.  Mac Rivera was a member of Liberty's basketball team from 1972 until 1975.  Both Rock Royer and Mac Rivera tragically died at a young age.

This award encompasses more than just athletic ability.  It recognizes the Liberty University senior student-athlete who has maintained an exemplary testimony on the playing field, in the classroom and among the student body.

Today, we continue this series by talking with Tanner (Ealum) Hart, a senior member of Liberty's women's track & field team who hails from Anchorage, Alaska.

Hart, who recently married former Liberty men's track & field student-athlete Caleb Hart, contributed to a number of historic achievements during her four years as a Lady Flame. In 2019, she helped Liberty's 4 x 400 relay team become the program's first-ever relay squad to qualify for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. A three-time ECAC event champion, Hart was part of Liberty's first two ECAC championship teams (2018 indoor and 2019 indoor).

Hart was a four-time ASUN event champion and an eight-time Big South event champion. During her time on campus, the Liberty women's track & field team won all seven ASUN and Big South team titles they competed for. She also set school records in five different events.

Hart graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in nursing and a 3.49 cumulative GPA. She was a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team member (2018 and 2019) and was voted to the ASUN All-Academic Team for 2020 indoor track & field. Hart took part in a number of community service projects, including Dollar Makes a Difference, Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat, Spooktacular and the Virginia 10-Miler.

The winner of the 2020 Rock Royer/Mac Rivera Award will be announced on LibertyFlames.com on Friday, June 12.
