The Lady Flames' first two contests at Liberty Arena will be played against Bluefield State (Nov. 12) and James Madison (Nov. 19).
The Liberty women's basketball team will play host to Bluefield State (Nov. 12) and James Madison (Nov. 19) for its first two home games at Liberty Arena, it was announced today.
The Bluefield State contest will serve as the Lady Flames' 2020-21 season opener. One week later, Liberty and JMU will face off on the hardwood for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons.
Liberty will look to continue a home winning streak as it moves next door to Liberty Arena. The Lady Flames won five straight contests at the Vines Center to close out the 2019-20 season.
Bluefield State at Liberty Nov. 12, 2020 Liberty Arena (Lynchburg, Va.) Bluefield State, an NCAA Division II independent team from Bluefield, W.Va., is coming off a 16-12 season. The Lady Blues reached the semifinals of the 2020 USCAA National Tournament before the remainder of the event was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Liberty is 5-2 all-time against Bluefield State. The most recent matchup saw the Lady Flames post an 82-46 victory at the Vines Center on Dec. 13, 2012.
This will mark Liberty's first meeting with a non-Division I opponent since Jan. 2, 2019. That day, the Lady Flames recorded a 61-42 home victory over West Chester.
James Madison at Liberty Nov. 19, 2020 Liberty Arena (Lynchburg, Va.) James Madison is coming off a 25-4 season, marking the Dukes' 15th straight year with 20+ wins. JMU was the No. 2 seed for the 2020 CAA Women's Basketball Championship, but the tournament was cancelled before the Dukes played their opening game.
James Madison owns a 13-2 all-time record versus the Lady Flames. The Dukes have won six straight head-to-head meetings, including a 76-53 triumph at the JMU Convocation Center on Nov. 24, 2019.
Like Liberty, JMU is moving into a new arena this season. The Dukes will christen the Atlantic Union Bank Center this fall.
The Lady Flames own a 19-40 all-time record against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) foes. They will be seeking their first win over a CAA opponent since Nov. 16, 2015 (72-63 home win over Elon).
James Madison is the fourth Commonwealth opponent announced as part of Liberty's non-conference schedule, joining Virginia Tech, Norfolk State and Hampton.
