The Liberty duo of Christian Lyon (ASUN Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer) and Kyle Mitchell (ASUN Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer) was recognized on Saturday, thanks to standout performances at last weekend's ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Lyon was previously named the meet's ASUN Most Valuable Male Performer after scoring a meet-high 22.5 points. He becomes Liberty's third straight ASUN Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer, after Alejandro Perlaza Zapata swept the indoor and outdoor honors in 2019.

A redshirt junior from Fountain, Colo., Lyon notched the first of his three ASUN event victories in the men's 60-meter dash. His winning time of 6.71 broke the Liberty program record of 6.73 which had stood for 24 years.

Lyon's winning 200 clocking of 20.99 took down four records, including the ASUN all-time, meet, Liberty and facility standards.

Lyon then closed out his busy and successful day by anchoring the Flames' 4 x 400 relay team to victory in 3:14.63. He was preceded on the relay by Brad Smalley, Jahquez Durham and Felix Lawrence.

Mitchell becomes Liberty's first ASUN Most Outstanding Field Performer in program history. He won the men's shot put competition with a record-breaking 62-10.5 heave which ranks No. 24 in the NCAA this season.

Mitchell's effort broke the ASUN all-time, meet and Liberty records for the event. He added exactly a foot to the Liberty program record which his coach (Clendon Henderson) had held since 2008.
