Kyle Mitchell won the men's shot put at Sunday's CNU Qualifier & Combined Events.
Newly crowned ASUN Conference champions Jovaine Atkinson (men's 60 hurdles) and Kyle Mitchell (men's shot put) won their respective events at the CNU Qualifier & Combined Events, Sunday at the Freeman Center.
Atkinson clocked a time of 7.84 in the men's 60 hurdles final to collect his fifth victory of the season and his second in as many days. The redshirt senior All-American captured the ASUN 60 hurdles title in 7.81 on Saturday, one day after clocking a meet-record time of 7.76 during the prelims.
Fellow Jamaican Mitchell won the men's shot put by more than five feet with the second best mark of his career. Mitchell's winning 62-2.5 effort during round five trails only his Liberty and ASUN Conference all-time record of 62-10.5 from Friday's ASUN men's shot put competition.
Sunday represented the Flames' final opportunity to post qualifying marks for the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. At the time of this release, Atkinson was tied for No. 18 nationally in the 60 hurdles (7.75 season best) and Mitchell sat No. 23 in the shot put (62-10.5 season best).
The top 16 declared athletes in each event will be invited to compete in the 2020 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, slated for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, N.M. The full field of competitors will be announced Tuesday at 10 p.m. on NCAA.com.
