This is Lovato's first ASUN Player of the Week honor.
Lady Flames freshmen women's tennis player Esther Lovato earned the distinction of ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The award is the first player of the week honor of Lovato's career. The Lady Flames lead the ASUN with four ASUN Player of the Week accolades through the first seven weeks of the spring season. No other team in the conference has more than one award.
"Esther has really worked hard to grow her game this season. And on top of that, she never gives up when on the court," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "So it's no surprise that she is producing good results week after week. We are so blessed to have her as a part of our family and can't wait to watch her play the rest of the season!"
Lovato picked up doubles and singles victory last Saturday against nationally-ranked No. 39 Furman. The freshman and her doubles partner Eloise Saraty topped the Paladins' Maggie Pate and Danni Vines 6-1 on court three, helping Liberty take the doubles point. Lovato then gave the Lady Flames a 2-0 lead with her 6-2, 6-1 win over Furman's Georgie Walker at No. 3 singles.
Lovato, who hails from Austin, Texas, paces all Lady Flames with 15 singles triumphs on the year and is second on the team with six spring singles wins and boasts a 6-2 record.
Lovato and Liberty (4-4) will host a pair of home matches this weekend against Georgia State (Friday, 11 a.m.) and Mount St. Mary's (Saturday, 1 p.m.).
