Afternoon Charge Gets Flames Back into the Mix at Seminole Intercollegiate

No. 33 Liberty fired the best afternoon round on Saturday, allowing the Flames to climb back into the top half of the leaderboard following the first day of competition at the 2020 Seminole Intercollegiate.

Liberty (297-285) enters tomorrow's final round tied for fourth place with No. 25 East Tennessee State (290-292) and No. 45 James Madison (288-294).

All three teams carded a 6-over par 582 during their first two times around the Golden Eagle Country Club (par 72, 6,965 yards).

Liberty was the only team in the 14-team field to find red figures during its afternoon flight, carding a 3-under par 285 to complete its 12-stroke improvement from the morning round.

The Flames' Jonathan Yaun is tied for second place after carding a 3-under par 141 (74-67). The sophomore is five shots off the overall lead, held by Florida State's John Pak, as the No. 8 golfer in the country leads the field with an 8-under par 136 (70-66).

Field Reflections:
• No. 17 Washington, the top ranked team in the field, leads the event by three strokes with a 1-over par 576 (289-288).
• No. 46 Florida State (288-292), the tournament host, and No. 32 North Florida (284-296) trail the Huskies by three strokes after opening the event with a 4-over par 580. 
• No. 47 West Virginia, the final remaining top-50 team in the field, is currently in ninth place with a 15-over par 591 (299-292).
• Only seven players in the 75-man field finished play on Saturday in red figures.
• The 14-team field played the Golden Eagle Country Course at a 0.72 stroke improvement during the afternoon flight (74.44 stroke average) as compared to the morning round (75.16 stroke average).

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• The Flames finished Saturday's play with 32 birdies, ranking second in the 14-team field in the statistical category after two rounds.
• Liberty's overall score could have been better, but the Flames played the par-5, No. 18 hole (532 yards) at combined 6-over par on Saturday.
• Yaun has posted a sub-70 round in seven of his last 13 rounds of collegiate golf.
• Yaun was one of five golfers to card a sub-70 round during the afternoon flight and his 5-under par 67 was the second-best round of the day.
• Kieran Vincent, the No. 82 ranked golfer in the country, is tied for 11th place following a 1-over par 145 (74-71).
• Vincent experienced a nine-shot improvement during his second round, which was aided by five birdies.
