The Liberty women's tennis team will take on nationally-ranked No. 39 Furman, Saturday afternoon at home. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the Cook Tennis Center.

Liberty enters with a 4-3 record and carries an 11-match home winning streak into the contest. The Lady Flames won their most recent match by a 5-1 score over Richmond, last Saturday at Crosswhite Athletic Club.

Furman is 8-3 on the year and has won six in a row. The Paladins feature the 14th-ranked singles player in the country, senior Katarina Kozarov, and a pair of ranked doubles squads in No. 27 Kozarov and Julia Adams, along with No. 38 Adams and Madison Dillon. Furman's current No. 39 ranking is its best in program history.

This will be Liberty's first home outdoor match in February since the Lady Flames hosted VCU at the Cook Tennis Center, Feb. 19, 2016.

The Lady Flames are 0-2 all-time against the Paladins, dropping matches in 2017 and 2019. In the most recent meeting, Furman downed Liberty 5-2 at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. (Feb. 10, 2019).

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • The last top-40 team Liberty faced was No. 10 Wake Forest on March 11, 2018, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
  • The Lady Flames lead all ASUN teams with three player of the week honors, this spring. No other ASUN squad has more than one honor. Senior Kalani Soli is a two-time ASUN Player of the Week  (Jan. 22, Feb. 12), and freshman Micaela Ode Mitre was honored on Feb. 5
  • Soli will likely face her most stern test of the season at No. 1 singles against No. 14 Kozarov. The Liberty senior has one ranked victory on the year, as she defeated No. 20 Asuka Kawai of Illinois on day three of the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., back in the fall (Sept. 28, 2019).
  • During its 11-match home winning streak, the Lady Flames are 7-0 at the Cook Tennis Center and 4-0 at Crosswhite Athletic Club.
  • Liberty has not lost a No. 2 doubles match this spring, holding a 7-0 record. The Lady Flames are 5-2 in the No. 1 position.
