Parker Cards Career Round To Lead Field After Second Day At Big South Golf Championship

Parker McKoy fired a career-best five-under par 67 to catapult himself to the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the second day of competition at the 2006 PUPS/PDPS Big South Men's Golf Championship held at The Patriot Club on Tuesday.

Parker's five-under par 67, which featured five birdies and 13 pars, marks the single best round of the sophomore's career and the third best round of golf ever recorded in Big South Men's Golf Championship history.

However, the rest of the Flames struggled on the afternoon as Liberty fell from a tied for fourth place to sixth place after the second round with Liberty heading into the final round of golf tomorrow 19 strokes off the pace.

No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina carded an even-par round of 288 to claim the overall lead as the Chanticleers have a two-day total of 13-over par 589 (301-288). Charleston Southern stands in second with a 22-over par 598 (302-296), while High Point is in third place with a 24-over par 600 (299-301).

The Flames are in sixth place with a 32-over par 608 (302-306), while Radford suffered the worst fall of the day as the Highlanders, who led after the first day, fell to seventh place (34-over par 610) after a 25-over par 313 today.

Individually, McKoy leads the field of 35 golfers with a three-under par 141 (74-67), while Charleston Southern's Shawn Hall is the only other golfer in red figures with a one-under par 143 (71-72). Birmingham-Southern's Austin Frye is in third place with a one-over par 145 (75-70).

Liberty's remaining four golfers are paced by Jay Calvo, who is tied for 17th place with a nine-over par 153 (73-80), Andrew Turner, who is tied for 24th with a 12-over par 156 (78-78), Albie Powers, who is tied for 29th with a 14-over par 158 (77-81) and Peter Horstman, who is tied for 32nd with a 15-over par 159 (78-81).

McKoy will look to maintain his two stroke lead tomorrow when the seven conference schools return to the par 72, 7,001 yard course for a final 18 holes of competition to determine this year's Big South Men's Golf Championship.
