Liberty Lady Flames tennis freshman Micaela Ode Mitre has been selected as the ASUN Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

"Mika did a great job last week of finding a way to right the ship after a second set loss to a nationally-ranked player," stated Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren. "She played with great mental fortitude and a desire to fight hard until the hard. She also exhibited the same attitude in doubles, so I'm very proud of her attitude and effort against Navy."

Ode Mitre's honor, the first ASUN award of her young career, gives Liberty a league-best two ASUN Player of the Week recipients in the first four weeks. Senior Kalani Soli was recognized as the conference player of the week, Jan. 22.

Ode Mitre, who hails from Lima, Peru, posted wins in both singles and doubles, last Saturday in Liberty's 4-3 road victory at Navy. The freshman knocked off nationally-ranked No. 114 Samantha Choi of the Midshipmen in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 on court five. Her victory, followed almost immediately by a win from Lady Flames sophomore Alexandra Almborg on court two, provided the visitors a 4-2 lead in an eventual 4-3 triumph.

With the victory, she improved to 3-1 in the No. 5 singles position this spring.

Ode Mitre clinched the crucial doubles point with her partner, fellow freshman Tiffany Nguyen, by virtue of a 6-3 victory over Aimee Dervishian and Annalise Klopfer on court two. The duo improved to 3-1 in spring singles matches and paces all Lady Flames doubles teams with nine total victories on the year.

Ode Mitre and Liberty (3-1) will put their three-match winning streak on the line when they had to Florida this weekend for a pair of road matches at Florida International (Friday, noon) and Florida Atlantic (Sunday, 10 a.m.).
