Liberty and Navy Set for Saturday Morning Match

The Lady Flames tennis team will travel to Navy for a Saturday morning match against the Midshipmen. First serve is slated for 9 a.m. at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis, Md.

Liberty enters the weekend with a 2-1 record following a 7-0 sweep of the Georgetown Hoyas, last Saturday in its home opener. Navy holds a perfect 4-0 mark and is off to its best start since 2012. The Midshipmen are 4-0 at home and topped Villanova and Richmond by identical 6-1 scores in a doubleheader, last Sunday.

This will be the second straight year the two programs have met on the tennis court. In their first-ever meeting last season (Feb. 2, 2019), Liberty swept Navy 7-0 at Crosswhite Athletic Club.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • Kalani Soli (No. 1 singles), Alexandra Almborg (No. 2 singles) and Esther Lovato (No. 3 and No. 4 singles) are each 3-0 in spring singles matches. Soli and her doubles partner, freshman Eloise Saraty, a perfect 3-0 as well in doubles contests.
  • Liberty is 23-4 at home over the last four seasons.  
  • In Liberty's 7-0 triumph over Navy last year, the Lady Flames swept the doubles session and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
  • The Lady Flames were picked as the conference co-favorites, along with North Florida, in the ASUN Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll. 
  • In November, Liberty Athletics unveiled plans to build an indoor tennis facility on campus. The 75,000-square foot facility is expected to be completed in January 2021 and will feature six indoor courts.
