Liberty men's tennis freshman Goncalo Ferreira has been selected as this week's ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

This is the first career player of the week honor for Ferreira. He is the first Flames player to receive the honor since Eddie Gutierrez earned the accolade on April 10, 2019.

"Goncalo brings passion and intensity to training and matches. This makes him and everyone around him better on a daily basis," said Liberty Men's Tennis Head Coach Derek Schwandt.

Ferreira, who hails from Barcelos, Portugal, posted a 2-0 singles record and 1-0 mark in doubles, last weekend. He captured both of his singles matches on Sunday against Gardner-Webb and North Carolina A&T. In the afternoon match against the Runnin' Bulldogs, Ferreira topped Alex Griffiths in the No. 4 singles match in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Against the NC A&T Aggies on Sunday evening, the Portugal native defeated Nicolas Arduh in two sets (6-2, 6-1) on court one.

Ferreira and doubles partner Josh Wilson bested Gardner-Webb's Connor Enslin and Sebastian Harris 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Ferreira's efforts helped the Flames to a 7-0 sweep of Gardner-Webb and 6-1 triumph over North Carolina A&T.

Ferreira has nine singles victories during his first season with the Flames and is 10-3 in doubles, including a 7-1 mark with Wilson.

Ferreira and the Flames (2-1) will host Longwood (0-0), Friday at 3 p.m. at Crosswhite Athletic Club.
