Thoughts From Head Coach Jeff Maren "I was very pleased with how our girls competed today. We played the crucial points better than we did last week and did a good job of implementing the things we've been working on in practice. This will be a confidence booster for us as we begin preparations for our next match. To God be the glory!"
How It Happened • Liberty swept the doubles session for the first time this season. The Lady Flames' Kalani Soli and Eloise Saraty overcame an early 2-1 deficit to Olivia Ashton and Agata Mikos on court one to prevail 6-2. • Liberty's pairing of Alexandra Almborg and Grace Hashiguchi (No. 3 doubles) captured a deuce point in the first game against Sofie Moenster and Chloe Bendetti and went on to win 6-2 to clinch the doubles point. The Lady Flames' No. 2 unit of Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre topped Elena De Santis and Anna Short 7-5 to complete the sweep. • Reigning ASUN Player of the Week Kalani Soli took down Moenster at No. 1 singles by a 6-1, 6-4 count to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage. Soli, who is now 3-0 this spring, has now won 17 straight singles dual matches dating back to the 2019 season and 34 straight singles sets in dual competition. • The Lady Flames' Almborg controlled her match on court two against Mikos on the way to a straight-sets (6-3, 6-2) triumph. The sophomore's victory, her third of the spring campaign, pushed Liberty's lead up to 3-0. • Liberty's Nguyen officially gave the hosts the victory with her 6-3, 7-6 (1) decision over her counterpart, De Santis. De Santis erased a 5-2 second-set deficit to take a brief 6-5 lead before Nguyen took the next game and dominated the tiebreaker 7-1 to close out the match. • Leading 4-0, Lovato battled past Olivia Ashton in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) to make it 5-0 in favor of the Lady Flames. The Austin, Texas, native joined Soli and Almborg as the three Liberty players with 3-0 singles mark in 2020. • The last two matches to take the court were Ode Mitre (Liberty) against Short (Georgetown) on court five and Saraty (Liberty) versus Carmen Aizpurua (Georgetown). Ode Mitre picked up a two-set win (7-5, 6-4), followed by a two-set triumph from Saraty (7-6 (6), 6-1). • Liberty has earned 7-0 sweeps in three of the past four spring home openers. Over the last seven years, the Lady Flames have outscored their opposition 45-4 in home openers. • Liberty is 23-4 on its home courts over the past three-plus seasons. The Lady Flames have not lost a home match since March 31, 2018 (4-3 loss to Winthrop). Liberty has won its last seven home matches overall.
Next Up • The Lady Flames will play at Navy (2-0) next Saturday. First serve between the Lady Flames and Midshipmen is set for 9 a.m. in Annapolis, Md. • Liberty topped Navy 7-0 in its home opener last year (Feb. 2, 2019) in what was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
