Gandy-Golden Named to Phil Steele All-America Team; 11 Flames Named to All-Conference Team

2019 Phil Steele FBS All-America and Independent All-Conference teams

Liberty's Antonio Gandy-Golden, who finished his career as the best wide receiver in program history, has been named an All-American.

The senior was named to the 2019 Phil Steele All-America honorable mention team, while 11 of Liberty's players were named to the Phil Steele FBS Independent All-Conference teams.

Joining Gandy-Golden on the FBS Independent All-Conference first team was Frankie Hickson (RB), Dontae Duff (OL), Jessie Lemonier (DL), TreShaun Clark (DL), Elijah Benton (DB) and Shedro Louis (KR).

Four Liberty Flames were named to the FBS Independent All-Conference second team: Stephen Calvert (QB), Joshua Mack (RB), Solomon Ajayi (LB) and Alex Probert (K).

The All-America honor continues an award-winning season for Gandy-Golden. The wide receiver was a semifinalist for the 2019 Biletnikoff Award and named the Offensive End of the Year honoree by the Touchdown Club of Richmond.

Gandy-Golden finished the year ranked No. 4 in the country in total receiving yards (1,396) and No. 5 in receiving yards per game (107.4). He ranks No. 22 in the country in receptions per game (6.1).

Earlier this season, Gandy-Golden became the first player in program history to record 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons (2017 – 1,066; 2018 – 1,037; 2019 – 1,396).

Gandy-Golden has rewritten all of Liberty's career receiving records. He is the school's all-time leader in career receiving yards (3,814), receptions (240) and receiving touchdowns (33). He also holds the program record with 17 100-yard games, seven of which came during his senior season.

Regarding the 2019 Phil Steele FBS Independent All-Conference teams, Liberty's 11 players were tied for second to Notre Dame on the independent all-conference listings. The Fightin' Irish place 16 players on the team, followed by 11 selections for both Liberty and Army.
