Complete Release

Liberty Volleyball Head Coach Trevor Johnson has been named to the VolleyballMag.com Under 40 Coaching Hotshots list.

VolleyballMagazine.com comprised their list of the top 50 up-and-coming volleyball head and assistant coaches under the age of 40, from the NCAA Division I women's volleyball, NCAA Division I and II men's volleyball, and collegiate beach volleyball ranks.

Johnson, in his second year at Liberty, is one of 22 NCAA Division I women's volleyball head coaches and one of two ASUN head coaches (North Florida's Kristen Wright) to make the list.

The Lady Flames have made vast improvement during Johnson's time at Liberty. After going 12-19 in 2017, Liberty posted a 15-17 record during Johnson's first year at the helm, 2018. This past season (2019) saw the Lady Flames go 21-12 and make their first postseason appearance since 2012. They also recorded their first 20-win season since 2014.

Liberty earned its first two postseason victories this past season, defeating La Salle and High Point to advance to the NIVC quarterfinals. The Lady Flames also posted victories over 2018 NCAA Tournament teams Northern Arizona and FGCU. Liberty was the only NCAA Division I team in 2019 to have three 100-block players, a 1,000-assist player, a 450-kill player and a 550-dig player.

In addition, the Liberty volleyball team has excelled academically under Johnson's guidance. The Lady Flames posted a 3.70 team GPA in 2018-19, the highest GPA of any team on campus. Additionally, redshirt junior Amelia Johnson was named the 2019 ASUN Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Volleyball Team®.
