Football Game Notes vs. Georgia Southern
Before completely flipping the switch to game day, Liberty's football team took part in two community service projects and a prep rally to round out Friday's Cure Bowl activities.
Following this morning's walk thru practice, four of Liberty's players and two coaching staff members had a chance to visit with patients at the Orlando Health Cancer Center.
Once the Cure Bowl organized visit was finished, Liberty's players and coaches made one last stop before heading back to CityWalk at Universal Studios Resort. The Flames were able to visit with Grayson Coleman, the eight-year old son of former Lady Flames women's basketball player Dawn Coleman (1991-94).
Grayson was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer often found in children. The Flames' visit lifted the spirts of Grayson and Dawn, securing two more members of Flames Nation that will be cheering Liberty on from the greater Orlando area tomorrow. Game On was on site for the visit with Grayson and will have a full feature story coming soon.
While the hospital visits were taking place, the rest of the Liberty's players and coaches returned to the CityWalk area for another community service event and a chance to interact with their fans at a prep rally.
Liberty and Georgia Southern squared off in a friendly competition that benefited hungry children in Haiti. Through the help of the J.A. Edwards of America Feeding Children Everywhere Hunger Project, Liberty and Georgia Southern were able to box 20,000 meals to ship to Haiti over a one-hour period.
Once the community service effort had finished, the two teams made their way over to the other side of the CityWalk Lagoon for a prep rally, featuring a Battle of the Bands and both team's cheerleaders.
With a full week of activities behind them, the Flames will now turn their full attention to the goal of winning their first-ever bowl game on Saturday.
Liberty and Georgia Southern will square off against each other in the 2019 FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl on Saturday at Exploria Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2:37 p.m. and the game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
