Strong Performances Highlight TYR '85 Invite Day 2 for Liberty

A program-record one-meter diving performance from sophomore Lauren Chennault highlighted a successful second day for Liberty at the 2019 TYR '85 Invite, held at Liberty Natatorium.  

The Lady Flames added 413 points on day two and are currently in sixth place out of nine teams with 751 total points. Navy leads the nine-team field with 1,496.5 points, followed by Duquesne (1,125), Vanderbilt (990.5), Marshall (839), James Madison (793.5), Liberty (751), Campbell (596), North Florida (478.5) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (413).

• 200 medley relay – 6th place in 1:44.53 (Payton Keiner – 26.29; Mikayla Herich – 29.91; Brittany Weiss – 24.83; Colleen Donlin – 23.50)

Notable
• Payton Keiner became the first CCSA swimmer so far this season to break 55 seconds in the 100 backstroke, placing second with a time of 54.71. Brittany Weiss broke 56 second for the first time this season, winning the C Final in 55.49.   

• This is the second straight year that Chennault has won one-meter diving at Liberty's home invitational, as she won with a score of 282.75 at last year's event.  

• Herich's 400 IM time (4:31.46) is the fastest in the event by a Lady Flame so far this season.

• Liberty posted also posted season-best times in the 200 medley relay (1:44.53) and 800 freestyle relay (7:36.60).

• Navy, James Madison, Liberty and Campbell are competing at an invitational at Liberty for the second year in a row.

• This weekend's meet features four teams who won their conference's championship meet last season. Liberty claimed the 2019 CCSA Championship, while Navy won the Patriot League title for the eighth straight year. James Madison has won back-to-back CAA titles, while Duquesne won the Atlantic 10 Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

• This week's invitational gives teams a preview of a prelims-finals program that will be used at their respective conference meets.

Historically Speaking
• Chennault, with 291.15 points tonight, broke her own one-meter diving program record of 289.43, set on Oct. 26 against UNC Asheville.   

• Liberty's 7:36.60 for 800 freestyle relay tonight is 10th on the program's all-time top 10 in the event.

The TYR '85 Invite concludes with day three, beginning with prelims of the 200 backstroke at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Finals start at 5 p.m. with the seeded final of the 1,650 freestyle and end with the 400 free relay.
