Liberty in 5th Place After Day 1 at TYR '85 Invite

The Liberty swimming & diving team is currently in fifth place after day one of the TYR '85 Invite, Friday at the Liberty Natatorium.

The Lady Flames scored 338 points on the opening day. Navy leads the nine-team field with 662.5 points, followed by Duquesne (507), Marshall (419.5), Vanderbilt (409), Liberty (338), James Madison (311.5), Campbell (270), North Florida (204.5) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (185).

• 200 freestyle relay – 9th place in 1:35.85 (Payton Keiner – 24.37; Hannah Baker – 23.79; Brittany Weiss – 24.07; Colleen Donlin – 23.62)

• Fr. Eva Suggs – 500 freestyle (4th place in 4:55.95 – qualified in 5:00.73)

• Eva Suggs swam the fastest 500 freestyle time of any CCSA swimmer so far this season, at 4:55.95 tonight. 

• Colleen Donlin's 23.74 in prelims today was the fastest 50 free by a Liberty swimmer this season.  

• Navy, James Madison, Liberty and Campbell are competing at an invitational at Liberty for the second year in a row.

• This weekend's meet features four teams who won their conference's championship meet last season. Liberty claimed the 2019 CCSA Championship, while Navy won the Patriot League title for the eighth straight year. James Madison has won back-to-back CAA titles, while Duquesne won the Atlantic 10 Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

• This week's invitational gives teams a preview of a prelims-finals program that will be used at their respective conference meets.

Up Next
Day two of the TYR '85 Invite begins at 10 a.m. with preliminary heats of the 100 butterfly and will also include the 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and one-meter diving. Tomorrow evening's finals start at 6 p.m. with heats of the 200 medley relay and conclude with the 800 freestyle relay.
