Adding to a program long known for strong rebounding and post play, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach Carey Green announced that 6-5 post player Bella Smuda has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2020-21 academic year.

Bella Smuda (F/C, 6-5, Exton, Pa.)
A senior at Downingtown East High School, Smuda is ranked as the No. 13 post in the Class of 2020 by ESPN's HoopGurlz. She averaged 20.7 ppg, 11.9 rpg and 5.5 bpg as a junior, helping her team go 20-9 and win the Ches-Mont league title.

The 2019 Daily Local News All-Area Girls' Basketball Player of the Year, Smuda scored her 1,000th career point as a junior. During her first three seasons of high school basketball, she has totaled 33 double-doubles and eight triple-doubles.

"I am ecstatic to be a Flame, and I am 100 percent sure that this is the place God wants me to be," asserted Smuda. "I could not imagine myself anywhere else. I look forward to growing as a person and a player at Liberty!"

What They're Saying about Bella Smuda
"Bella and Liberty are a perfect fit. Bella's desire to grow in her faith and to serve others with her talents makes her an outstanding teammate. She has demonstrated a growth mindset in basketball, expanding her shooting range from the 15-foot range to the three-point arc. She has good hands and finishes well around the basket. Her mobility in the post will certainly impact the inside game of our team. She runs, rebounds, alters shots and has a great shooting touch, all of which are welcome assets. Bella has been challenged and developed in a very competitive Lady Runnin' Rebels AAU summer program as well as a highly respected high school basketball program. She has a high ceiling of potential."
Carey Green, Liberty Head Women's Basketball Coach

"Bella is a joy to coach. She is certainly a dominant force in the paint, both as a shot blocker and a scorer, but also has a great touch from the field and is developing three-point range. However, it will always be her competitive nature that drives her. A willingness to work, coupled with a positive attitude, makes her a great teammate and a solid all-around player."
Tom Schurtz, Downingtown East High School Head Girls' Basketball Coach

"Bella is an unbelievable competitor, talent, teammate and a joy to coach."
Bill McDonough, Jr., Lady Runnin' Rebels AAU Coach
