Lipscomb Defeats Liberty 1-0 on Senior Night

A goal in the 24th minute proved to be the difference, as the Lipscomb Bisons edged the Liberty Flames 1-0, on Senior Night at Osborne Stadium. The contest was the final regular season game for each team.

Bison midfielder Ruben Pedersen scored the lone goal in the contest. Liberty goalkeeper Brogan Engbers made a career-high eight saves in the match.

Before the match, Liberty recognized the seven players on its team playing in their final home game. The Flames recognized Carter Burris, Bobby Bynum, Shalom Dutey, Evan Godfrey, Ruben Garcia, Rigo Rojas and Matthew Zaczyk.

Liberty finishes its regular season with a 1-5 ASUN Conference mark and a 5-12 record overall. Lipscomb moves to 3-3 in conference and 5-8-2 overall.

Turning Point
During the 24th minute, Lipscomb struck for the contest's only goal. Midfielder Noah Gulden lofted the ball into the left side of the 18-yard box from 30 yards out. Forward Malik Shaheed gathered the pass at the left post and pushed it across to the right post. There, Pedersen tipped the ball into the open net for a 1-0 advantage that the Bisons never relinquished.

• Lipscomb outshot Liberty 20-7 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

• Forwards Shane Geisler and Jordan Barbara led the Flames with two shots apiece.

• Engbers recorded eight saves, eclipsing his previous match-high of seven. The Liberty keeper had made seven saves in a match three times during his career, including seven at Jacksonville in a 1-0 victory, last Saturday.
