Muamba won a second round qualifying match on Monday.
Liberty men's tennis junior Nicaise Muamba endured a lengthy weather delay to pick up a victory in the second round of qualifying, Monday at the Naples 25k ITF Futures event at Academia Sanchez-Casal Florida.
Muamba and his counterpart, Mehdi Laalej (Morocco), were tied at 5-5 in the first set when inclement weather halted play at the clay court tournament. After a several hour delay, Muamba topped Laalej 7-6 (2), 6-2. He will move on to face Eero Vasa of Finland in the third round of qualifying on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
Muamba is now 2-0 at the tournament and 9-5 in fall singles matches. With a win tomorrow, he would advance to the singles main draw.
Flames freshman Goncalo Ferreira dropped his qualifying match to Tennessee's Giles Hussey by a 6-1, 6-3 score. The Liberty freshman wraps up the tournament with a 1-1 singles mark.
The third day of qualifying will be on Tuesday, followed by the beginning of main draw play on Wednesday.
