Liberty men's tennis players Nicaise Muamba and Goncalo Ferreira will compete at the Naples 25k ITF Futures event starting on Sunday.
The eight-day tournament, which runs through next Sunday, will be contested at Academia Sanchez-Casal Florida in Naples, Fla. Singles qualifying will begin tomorrow at the clay court tournament. Muamba and Ferreira will not play in doubles at the event.
Tournament Breakdown: Muamba is no stranger to ITF tournaments since joining the Flames in fall 2018. The junior played in the ITF Canada F6 Futures and F7 Futures tournaments last September and has also played in ITF events over the summer months. Muamba has faced strong competition this fall and is 7-5 in singles. Most recently, he posted a 4-1 mark at the ITA Atlantic Regional (Oct. 17-21) and reached the semifinals of the singles main draw. The Laval, Quebec, Canada, native is currently the 65th-ranked singles player in the nation.
Ferreira will be playing in his first ITF event as a member of the Liberty men's tennis squad. The freshman from Barcelos, Portugal, has four singles victories to his credit so far in his first fall with the Flames. Ferreira is coming off a two-win week in singles at the ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia.
