BIG EAST Release

Liberty Flames field hockey's Daniella Rhodes earned her third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week distinction on Tuesday morning from the conference office. Additionally, senior goalkeeper Allison Schaefer made the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts in last week's pair of games.

Rhodes also received the award on Sept. 2 and 9. Schaefer was a preseason BIG EAST All-Conference selection and is a two-time all-conference honoree.

Rhodes recorded her first career three-goal game in No. 17 Liberty's 4-0 BIG EAST triumph at Georgetown, last Friday. The forward scored in the 11th (game winner), 17th and 46th minutes of the contest to up her goal total to 12 on the season. She led all players with six shots on goal in the contest as well.

Rhodes also recorded two shots (one on goal) in the Lady Flames' 3-2 setback at No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday. Her shot on goal led to a Charlotte Vaanhold rebound goal early in the second half (36:52). Through 13 games this season, Rhodes paces Liberty in goals (12), assists (7), points (31) and shots on goal (37).

Schaefer established a new program record with her 38th career victory during Liberty's win at Georgetown. The Millersville, Pa., native made one save in her 15th career shutout. She is now the program's all-time leader in wins (38), shutouts (15) and saves (337).

On Sunday against the top-ranked UNC Tar Heels, Schaefer tallied a season-best eight saves. She is 9-4 on the year with a 0.99 goals-against-average and six clean sheets.

Liberty has now featured nine players in the BIG EAST Weekly Awards through eight weeks, including three freshman of the week honors (all Rhodes), two offensive players of the week (Rhodes and Jill Bolton) and four weekly honor roll recipients (Schaefer, Rhodes, Mallory Fortenbaugh and Ashley Dykema).

No. 17 Liberty (9-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) will take on first place UConn (13-3, 5-0 BIG EAST), the No. 3-ranked team in the nation, in a BIG EAST contest on Saturday at noon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The match will be the Lady Flames' inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
