Liberty's Ervin Chang had his best showing of the fall season on Monday, carding a pair of 3-under par rounds of 68 to share the clubhouse lead following day one at the 2019 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate.
Chang's strong showing at the Baylor-hosted tournament has the Flames in second place, one stroke behind No. 6 SMU.
Liberty finished the day carding an 11-under par 557 (286-271) on the Royal Oaks Country Club (par 71, 7,068 yards).
The event's final round gets underway tomorrow morning with the Flames heading out off the No. 1 tee (par 4, 436 yards) at 8:42 CST.

Field Reflections: • Round one action was slightly delayed during the morning due to the severe storms and tornado that hit the Dallas area overnight prior to the tournament. • The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate is utilizing the "Maxwell" tournament format where all five golfers from each school participate in the same grouping. • During their second trip around the Royal Oaks Country Club, the Flames carded the best 18-hole team total on Monday with a 13-under par 271. • Liberty and SMU distanced themselves from the rest of the field during the afternoon flight, shooting a combined 23-under par during the second round (Liberty 13-under par 271; SMU 10-under par 274). • Tournament host and No. 11 ranked Baylor tried to keep pace with the Flames and the Mustangs on Monday and is in third place following a 6-under par 562 (282-280). • The Flames did most of their scoring on the par-5 holes on Monday, finishing round two with a 12-under par 4.60 scoring average on the par-5 holes to lead the field.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Liberty is ranked No. 53 in the first Golfstat national rankings of the 2019-20 season, which was released last Wednesday. • Chang led the field on the day, finishing the first 36 holes of play with a tournament-best 13 birdies on Monday. • Chang carded his second and third sub-70 rounds of the season, giving him 23 for his four-year career with the Flames. • Jonathan Yaun is currently in fifth place with a 4-under par 138 (73-65), trailing his teammate and Michigan's Charlie Pilon (67-69-136/6-under par) by two strokes. • The sophomore closed the day with a 6-under par 65, tied for the eight-lowest round in tournament history and Yaun's personal career low 18-hole total.
